Northern Goldfields - Golden Outback Geraldton to Kalgoorlie

our first stop after leaving Geraldton

wildflower country

there was nothing here except this sign and a couple of buildings and some"locals"walking around

we arrived at Mt Magnet with plenty of time to some exploring of this rugged old gold mining area before returning to our caravan park for the night

nameless grave of mother and child engraved with date 1908
100 ounce gold nugget found here in 1891, 250 oz was dug up like potatoes , and a township with numerous hotels was was born

a pretty big day spent around Mt Magnet

Sandstone, first stop the next day

lots more exploring done around Sandstone, and we're on the move again

awesome lookout, the photo doesn't do it justice

Stopped here for fuel and coffee, not much to see but a very rude fuel attendant, won't be back here again

plenty of these steel cutouts were spotted around most sites of interest around the mining areas,
this one at Leinstar didn't have an attitude and wasn't rude

miles and miles and miles of this

Visited the GHOST TOWN GWALIA adjacent to Leonora

It was a very interesting place, lots of old uninhabited buildings just left standing for every one to check out in this ghost town

another 100 ks further on and it was time to stop at this perfect free camp area

we were the only ones there, had a great fire and cooked some dinner and had an absolute awesome display of stars in a beautiful night sky

on the road again and a visit to Menzies on the way to Kalgoorlie

Menzies is an absolute picture perfect Bush town that could have come out of a fairy tale book,
it was a great place for us to have coffee and morning tea

Jurien bay to Geraldton

Jurien Bay for a couple of days while we did some exploring before moving on to Geraldton
we were just a few metres walk from every thing around this beautiful bay

beautiful sunset from our caravan park, oops never mind the bins ..

Lake Thetis just outside Cervantes

Stromatolites growing around this lake

they looked like rocks growing in the water

on the way into the pinnacles

this place was like out of this world , eerie and awesome

it was amazing that you are still allowed to walk and drive through all of this

we even saw some emus

drove to Hangover bay for a picnic lunch not far from the Pinnacles...what a pretty little bay and picnic area

back to Jurien Bay for the sunset and some absolutely delicious fish and chips

lots of  beautiful scenery all the way to Geraldton along the Great Indian Ocean Highway

all set up at The Sunset Beach Caravan Park Geraldton
the beach access a few metres from the park

pizza night......hooray!!

a visit to the Geraldton Museum...was well worth it, an excellent facility where we watched a great 3D feature about the HMAS Sydney 11 which was sunk after a battle with a German warship, which also sank, near Shark Bay. The 645 Australian sailors that were on board all perished without a trace
