The cannon was brought to Cooktown at the request of the Town Council. On April 10th 1885 Cooktown Council carried the following motion. "A wire be sent to the Premier in Brisbane requesting he supply arms, ammunition & competent officer to take charge against a threat of Russian invasion." The cannon, cast in Scotland in 1803, 3 cannonballs, 2 rifles and 1 officer were sent.

Archers Point renowned to be one of the most windiest places in Australia, the wind was so strong it was difficult to breathe when facing into to the wind, the views from up here was awsome

leaving Cooktown foreshore on the riverboat for a sunset tour on the Endeavour river, despite the windy and drizzly evening it was an awesome 3 hours on the water with to see
it was BYO drink and a beautiful platter of cheese and nibbles provided
